Trauma and uncertainty in early childhood can impair development of the brain. Even those who were adopted at birth can display signs of trauma from their time in-utero. Often times the adopted child displays signs of emotional dysregulation, poor executive functioning (planning, organizing, inhibiting impulses, paying attention, managing time, etc) and difficulties in academic settings.
